Postal service goes digital

Australia Post has embraced the digital age, launching the My Post Digital Mailbox, which lets you: privately and securely connect with service providers it has a relationship with, such as banks, utilities and government entities; receive statements and bills, set reminders and make payments online; and upload and easily find important documents. There's also an app, available on iPad or iPhone, that gives you access to your mailbox on the go. It has a "scan and pay" feature, which means you can scan any paper bills and pay using the app. Digital Mailbox is free for now, but who knows if that will last.

Unlock your equity

If you want to unlock some of the value of your home, have a look at Homesafe Wealth Release, from Homesafe Solutions. It is the new name for Homesafe Debt Free Equity Release, which has been assisting senior homeowners over the past nine years through an association with Bendigo Bank. The name change emphasises how the product helps people unlock wealth in their home. The Homesafe Wealth Release differs from a reverse mortgage as it allows you to sell a share of the future sale proceeds of your home. This share is a fixed percentage of the sale and it is only due when you sell the home, or when the home is sold after the deaths of you and your partner.

App for small business

Commonwealth Bank small business customers can now access an app that lets them accept on-the-spot payments, create estimates and invoices instantly and manage their cash flow. It's available as part of a Simple Merchant Plan on iPhone and Android, which costs from $30 a month. "We have taken the best parts of our existing payment apps and evolved them to create the CommBank Small Business app," says Lisa Frazier, executive general manager digital channels.
