How to make cash from old mobile phones

You can get paid to hand in your old mobile phones while diverting toxic e-waste from landfill.

Cash For Phones is a division of the Aussie Recycling program where reusable phones are exported overseas for less fortunate people or used for spare parts.

Most phones from the past three to four years have a value.

Your old mobile phones could fetch between $1.50 and $700, depending on the condition, make and model - an old Nokia won't fetch as much as an iPhone or BlackBerry.

Go to the website cashforphones.com.au and search for your phone by brand and model.

You'll then need to register an account, where you'll receive instructions on assessing the value, selling your phone and postage.

If shipping by post, the postage is free with the Cash For Phones reply-paid label. For registered post or any other means, these costs are your liability.

You'll get an email notifying receipt and you'll be paid (by cheque) within seven working days of the receipt of your phone.

You can sell multiple phones in multiple conditions in one transaction.

You'll need to include the battery and charger if available. Remove your memory card in advance.

Blocked or stolen handsets will not be accepted.
